Lawsuit Seeks Records Dealing with Wolf Management

The environmental group, The Center for Biological Diversity is filing suit against the Washington Department of Fish and Game, wanting access to records dealing with wolf management.

The group specifically wants access to records regarding the killing of a wolf from the Smackout Pack this summer, and the killing of several members of the Profanity Peak Pack in 2016.

By law, wolves in Washington can be killed if they’re attacking livestock…that’s what Fish and Wildlife say those wolves were doing.

The state estimates at the end of last year, there were 115 wolves, mostly in Eastern Washington…in 20 packs, with 10 breeding pairs.

The group says since 2012, the state has killed 18 wolves, and they want a full accounting.

A department spokesman says they don’t comment on legal filings.
