Boise State to Offer New Online Program

If your Mother had Breast Cancer and you want to find out if you may also be susceptible to the disease, you would visit a genetic counselor.

Genetic counselors help people understand and adapt to the medical and psychological implications of genetic contributions to disease. But it’s not easy to become a genetic counselor, because it requires a master’s degree in genetic counseling from an accredited program.

We now know, Boise State University will begin offering the nation’s only fully online master of science degree program in genetic counseling beginning fall 2019.

The State Board of Education approved the program Thursday.

Boise State’s program will be available to nurses, health care professionals and others in the rural areas of Idaho and surrounding states, and to students who are otherwise unable to attend a face-to-face program in Boise.
