Nampa Police Crackdown on Crime in Downtown

Nampa Mayor Bob Henry instructed the Nampa Police Department to crack down on disorderly conduct from loiterers in downtown Nampa after receiving multiple complaints from employees.

Since July 1st police have issued 62 citations for misdemeanors and infractions in the downtown neighborhood.

Henry said the issue of disorderly conduct downtown came to his attention when he received complaints from area employees who were afraid to walk to their cars when they got off work.

The Idaho Press Tribune reports, there have been several incidents downtown in the past including public urination, drug use, littering, sleeping outside businesses, yelling profanities at passersby and using the outdoor fountain as a shower.

But some are concerned that this direction has caused police to act unfairly toward Nampa’s homeless population. Henry insists that his intention with his direction to police was not to crack down on homelessness, but crime in the area.
