Random Thoughts of a News and Sports Junkie: 2/17/17

—What exactly is “Fake News?”  I’ve seen reporters get a story wrong before, and get fired for it.  I’ve seen reporters get facts jumbled up, and get fired for it.  But I’ve never seen a reporter make up a story, or change a story based on their political beliefs.  Never.

—What exactly is an “Alternative Fact?”  It’s another term I’ve heard recently.  Could Fake News and Alternative Facts be linked in some way?

—Credibility is critically important to a reporter and news organization.  That’s really why reporters get fired when they get a story wrong.  I’ve personally had to let reporters go for “getting it wrong.”  It stinks, but you can’t keep a reporter if people think the stuff they report is less than factual.  Believability in essential.

—I watched Pete Rose join Joe Buck on Undeniable: It’s worth watching in my view.  I’m still torn on sending Rose to the Hall of Fame.  He certainly deserves to be there, but it’s hard to get past this fact: He gambled on Baseball.  It’s the golden rule you can’t break, and he did it.  It’s hard for me to get past it, and I may never get there.  But again, I admit, Rose’s numbers make him one of the best hitters the game ever saw.

—Benedict Cumberbatch makes a much better Sherlock Homes than Robert Downey Jr.  However, Ironman is cooler than Dr. Strange.  Advantage Robert Downey Jr.  BTW: If you are looking for some good TV, you could do much worse than Sherlock.

—Tony Romo to the Broncos in 2017.  You heard it here 1st. Raiders, Broncos and Chiefs all make the playoffs.  The AFC WEST beats the crap out of each other, and none of them make it past the AFC Championship game.
