Middleton Schools District violated federal law with same-sex classrooms

Middleton Schools District violated federal law with same-sex classrooms.

The U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights found that Middleton Heights Elementary school was illegally segregating students into same-sex classrooms.

The Idaho Press Tribune reports that the school violated a federal law that prohibits gender discrimination in education. The school claimed that boys and girls learn differently and have been segregated from second to forth grade for the past decade.

The finding came from a complaint filed by the American Civil Liberties Union.

The elementary school has agreed to return to co-ed classrooms beginning with this school year.
