Bill banning drones for hunting heading to House floor vote

A bill which would make it clear that drones can not be used for hunting in Idaho is headed to the House floor for a vote. The House Resources and Conservation Committee Tuesday voted unanimously to send Senate Bill 1213 to the full House with a do-pass recommendation. Sharon Kiefer with Idaho Fish and Game says it won’t add any new regulations.

“The bill does not interfere with the use of aircraft for authorized wildlife control actions,” said Kiefer.  “The bill also doesn’t interfere with the use of drones for recreational, non-hunting use, such as wildlife or habitat photography.”

Kiefer told the committee existing law is clear that drones meet the criteria of both motorized vehicles and aircraft, and therefore, existing law should apply to them just as it does airplanes and ATVs.
